October was a busy month, particularly in terms of natural disasters. According to Aon Benfield’s Global Catastrophe Recap October 2015, global catastrophe losses in October are expected to top $10 billion.

Some of the largest catastrophes include:

  • Flooding in the eastern US ($2 billion)
  • Hurricane Patricia, the strongest tropical storm ever recorded in the western hemisphere (an estimated $300 million)
  • Severe thunderstorms in the French Riviera with massive flash flooding (total economic loss estimates at $1 billion)
  • Ongoing drought conditions in Papua New Guinea (total economic loss estimates at $60+ million)

New ANSI Standard

ASIS International and RIMS jointly announced the release of their new Risk Assessment ANSI Standard. Based on leading practices from 250 global security and risk management professionals, the standard is designed to provide guidance on developing and sustaining a coherent, effective risk assessment program.

The new ANSI Standard complements the ISO 31000 risk management standard and the ISO 31010 standard cataloging risk assessment methodologies by providing a blueprint for the risk assessment process. View the Executive Summary (PDF).

Business Vehicle, Travel/Expense, and Relocation Survey Results

The average direct spend per employee driver has increased 11% since 2013. That’s just one of the survey findings from Runzheimer International’s  9th Annual Mobility Benchmark Report.

The company surveyed hundreds of companies across a variety of industries to gather data on business vehicle, travel & expense, and/or relocation programs. The report includes data points such as average direct spend per driver and traveler, average direct spend per business mile and trip, and percentage of outsourced program spend.
